Medical Administration Support

AKAN provides integrated medical administration and coordination from medical record review and treatment planning to authorization, payment, and billing. Our coordinated approach helps patients receive appropriate treatment in Korea while ensuring transparent and reliable case management for government authorities and insurers.

1. Medical Report Review

AKAN reviews each patient’s medical records and connects the patient with appropriate medical specialists in Korea based on the diagnosis, medical condition, and treatment needs.

Specialist Matching & Medical Review

  • Review medical reports, imaging data, and other available medical records and identify any additional information required for medical review.
  • Select appropriate specialists using AKAN’s accumulated database of Korean medical professionals by disease and specialty.
  • Coordinate the medical review with the selected specialist or hospital and obtain a proposed treatment plan or medical opinion.
  • Communicate the results to the patient or referring organization and provide estimated treatment costs when required.

Rapid Coordination

  • Once all required medical records and information are complete, AKAN aims to coordinate the medical review and provide the initial treatment plan within 48 hours whenever possible.
  • Urgent cases are prioritized according to the patient’s condition.

2. Hospital Schedule Coordination

Once treatment in Korea is confirmed, AKAN coordinates the hospital schedule and necessary preparations so that the patient can begin treatment as efficiently as possible.

Treatment & Schedule Coordination

  • Coordinate the earliest available outpatient consultation, examination, admission, or treatment schedule based on the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Maintain communication with hospital coordinators and medical teams and manage schedule changes when required.
  • Coordinate the necessary preparations for the patient’s arrival and treatment in Korea.
  • Arrange required support services in advance based on the patient’s medical condition and treatment schedule.

3. Government-Sponsored Patient Management

AKAN works closely with government authorities and sponsoring organizations to manage government-sponsored patients throughout their treatment journey in Korea.

From the moment treatment authorization is issued, AKAN coordinates the patient’s treatment, required approvals, hospital schedules, and related expenses while maintaining continuous communication among the patient, hospital, and sponsoring organization.

Treatment Authorization & Coordination

  • Coordinate hospital and treatment schedules upon receipt of the GOP or other treatment authorization.
  • Review treatment plans and coordinate additional treatment, extensions, or changes with the sponsoring organization when required.
  • Manage authorization for treatment-related medications, medical equipment, supplies, and other requirements when applicable.
  • Maintain continuous communication with hospitals and sponsoring organizations throughout the patient’s treatment.

Continuous & Transparent Patient Management

  • Manage the patient’s hospital schedule and required support throughout the course of treatment.
  • Maintain detailed records of hospital visits, treatment coordination, and medical interpretation to ensure continuity and transparency.
  • Stay closely involved throughout treatment so that medical, administrative, and practical needs can be addressed promptly.
  • Review approved treatment and service expenses and arrange payment of medical costs to hospitals and non-medical service costs to relevant service providers when applicable.

This integrated approach allows patients and their families to focus on treatment while providing sponsoring organizations with clear and reliable oversight of the patient’s care.

4. Billing & Claims Support

AKAN’s responsibility does not end when treatment is completed. Accurate review, payment, and transparent settlement of medical and service expenses are an essential part of completing the patient’s treatment journey.

Because AKAN remains closely involved throughout treatment and maintains detailed records of the services provided, medical and service expenses can be reviewed against the patient’s actual treatment history.

Expense Review & Payment

  • Review detailed hospital statements and cross-check medical expenses against the patient’s treatment records and approved scope of care.
  • Clarify discrepancies or additional charges with the hospital when necessary.
  • Review approved non-medical service expenses based on the services actually provided.
  • Under agreements with sponsoring organizations, AKAN makes advance payment of all approved medical and non-medical service expenses on behalf of the patient.

Transparent Billing & Claims

  • Separate medical expenses and AKAN-coordinated service expenses for clear and transparent billing.
  • Prepare the supporting documentation required for billing and claims.
  • Submit the prepaid expenses to the relevant government authority or insurer for reimbursement in accordance with applicable agreements and requirements.
  • Maintain billing and payment records and coordinate any additional documentation required during the claims process.
